I’m pretty excited about finally having almost all the tools I need to aggregate my various online Activity streams into a single one. Using a combination of IFTTT recipes, Zapier Zaps, Twitter embeds and Medium embeds I am close to solving the balkanization of the web and giving me the control back that I have wanted these past 10 years. By using my blog as an original source of publication but also hooking up my other Activity Streams, I get the best of both worlds.
I get to retain publishing control of my own content on my blog, but also have the ability to publish elsewhere and bring those feeds back into my blog. It’s not a perfect solution but it’s as close as it’s going to get for now. I’m also investigating POSSE and possibly setting up a Facebook App that gives me more control than what’s granted to IFTTT and Zapier.
I’m working on a long-form piece about web site technology in our public schools, but look for a long-form piece after that that explains how I did all of this. Take a look on my camworld.org blog to see how I’m aggregating streams into one feed and providing a filter mechanism for seeing the posts from one feed at a time.
