This is the direction everything is going. Microsoft wants to own this market with their Passport technology, which they hope will eventually make it into devices like AT&T Labs Bat Ultrasonic Location System. I remember someone at Netscape telling me that they had tied their employee access security card system to an LDAP-enabled database. So that whever someone quit or was fired, all they had to do was change the access flag in the employee database and that employee’s security card would instantly no longer work at any building on the campus.
