Option 2a - Cross-Platform/Browser Web Application Using 3rd-Party CodeBase (Deepleap)

Cost: Approx: $125,000 - $150,000, +$30,000/annually
Time: 1-2 months development/implementation process

This option is very similar to Option 2, except the client-side web application implementation would be built on top of an existing third-party codebase that has already been developed to serve the same functionality. Deepleap has approached Alphanumerica with an offer to license their code-base for all types of Web applications. We see a good match between Deepleap's functionality and Mouseion's needs.

Development Costs:
Item Number of Hours
Third-Party Programmer(s) 50-80
Database Developer 10-20
Interface Designer 150-200
HTML Designer 50-80
User testing 30-50

Associated Costs:
Item Documentation Cost
Development platform (IE 4.x/5.x and Netscape 4.x) Online Free
3rd-Party License Fee for Web App Codebase Included $2500/month
Commercial Software Publisher (Class 3) Digital ID (for Explorer) Online $400 a year
Commercial Software Publisher (Class 3) Digital ID (for Netscape) Online $400 a year

Development Time:The development time for this solution is significantly less than Option 1 an 2, because most of the difficult back-end problems and bugs have already been solved by the Deepleap development team. This includes making numerous accommodations for the differences in the two major 4.x browsers. Each browser has implemented certain technologies like CSS and JavaScript in slightly different ways, which can cause problems in the development cycle. Deepleap has spent the past six months solving many of these problems and accounting for the browser technology inconsistancies.

Most of the work needed would involve developing a cutting-edge user interface and integrating it with the back-end web application codebase. Part of the time would be spent on designing a robust database that will be able to scale up without sacrificing performance. The remainder of the time would be spent on user testing, bug fixes, and administration issues.

Note: This option allows for instantaneous software updates, as the web application is loaded remotely over an Internet connection every time the user uses it. There is no software installation, as is required in competing solutions. Bug fixes and security fixes are also instantaneous.
